The Echo Canyon trail in Canmore is accessible from the Cougar Creek area and is close to local amenities. It is a moderate trail with some steep inclines that lead through the canyon. This route is most popular with rock climbers so be cautious not to disrupt the trail and climbing areas. The trail is easy to follow and takes up about 3 hours.
Getting there
To get to the Echo Canyon Trail parking area, take Bow Valley Trail eastbound past the roundabout, continuing until you reach Elk Run Boulevard. Turn left here, and turn right onto Ridge Road before reaching Cougar Creek. Park along Ridge Road and find the trail on your right.

Echo Canyon Trail Description
Hiking to Echo Canyon begins near the industrial area of Canmore in the Cougar Creek region. From the visible path on Ridge Road, follow the trail to join Horseshoe Loop Trail and travel north for 2297ft before reaching a junction and heading east. Make the curve in the trail and follow the straight and clear path to the canyon. The canyon is often busy with rock climbers, with little out-and-back foot traffic. Be sure to mind the space on the canyon walls for climbers as you travel through it. Reach the depths of the canyon before turning around and returning the way you came to the parking area.
