The Lochnagar and Loch Muick Circular Walk is a lengthy adventure through Cairngorms National Park that will take you across several rugged peaks for breathtaking views. While out walking the trail, you will climb up into the mountains to traverse the summits of Cac Carn Mor, Lochnagar, Carn a’ Coire Boidheach, Càrn an t’Sagairt Mòr, Cairn Bannoch, and Broad Carn, before walking along the shoreline of Loch Muick. Walkers should take note that this is a long and arduous journey, so exercise all precautions and come prepared with all of the necessary gear/supplies for such a trip.

If you are looking to complete a rugged long-distance walk in Cairngorms National Park that will see you traverse a number of mountain peaks with breathtaking views, then the Lochnagar and Loch Muick Circular Walk is the perfect route for you.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the southwest along the road until you reach the Spittal of Glen Muick Visitor Centre. Here, you will turn off to the northwest along the road and make your way across a marshy stretch of land and the River Muick. Picking up a footpath, you will begin climbing uphill to the west and work your way between several mountain peaks to eventually arrive at the summit of Lochnagar with its beautiful lake below.
From here, the trail will lead you further into the mountains to the southwest, traversing the rugged terrain of Carn a’ Coire Boidheach and Càrn an t’Sagairt Mòr, before turning to the southeast across Cairn Bannoch and Broad Carn. After traversing this last peak, you will follow the trail as it bends to the northeast and heads downhill, skirting the edge of Loch Muick on the way back to the trailhead where you began your grand adventure.
