Tommy Jones Memorial and Pen-y-Fan Trail

Featuring breathtaking scenery of Brecon Beacons National Park and interesting historical sites, the Tommy Jones Memorial and Pen-y-Fan Trail is an amazing adventure if you are looking to explore the rugged terrain of South Wales.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way uphill to the northeast, traversing the slopes of Y Gyrn before climbing further up the mountainside to reach the Tommy Jones Memorial. Here, you will find a small obelisk that serves as a memorial to Tommy Jones, a 5 year old boy who wandered into the mountains in 1900 and whose body was tragically found on this spot.

Following the trail to the southeast, you will make your way through the central beacons, traversing Corn Du and Pen-y-Fan, the highest point in South Wales. Take some time here to appreciate the spectacular views across the rugged, mountainous landscape, before making your way southwest along the Windy Ridge to visit the site of a non-fatal 2010 PA-38 Tomahawk crash site. From here, you will head to the north along the ridge to once again pass the memorial, working your way down the mountainside in order to return to the trailhead where you began.
