Talybont Reservoir Walk Description:

While there are some scenic portions of the Talybont Reservoir Walk, a large portion of this route does follow along roadways. If you are travelling with young children or dogs, be sure to keep a close eye on them. Additionally, you will want to wear proper walking boots that will be comfortable on both forest pathways and paved roads.

Even though this route utilizes roads on several occasions, the views of the reservoir and surrounding woodland terrain are scenic enough to make it worthwhile. Whether you are looking to sit by the water’s edge and gaze out across the reservoir or are hoping to lose yourself and relax in the peaceful forest setting, this is a good walking route to simply get outside for some exercise while taking in the views.

Setting out from the car park, you will head to the northeast along the road for 0.6mi, where you will come to a junction in the road. Turning right here, you will begin to make your way across the dam wall while enjoying beautiful views of the reservoir extending before you to the south. After reaching the opposite side, you will enter into the cover of the forest and turn right to follow a track to the southwest.

While walking along this portion of the trail, take some time to appreciate the peaceful forest atmosphere and intermittent views of the water that present themselves through the tree cover. After 2.2mi along the east shore of the Talybont Reservoir, you will turn right onto a footpath and follow it downhill to cross over the banks of Caerfanell.

After crossing over the river, you will continue along the trail for another 0.2mi, where you will come to the edge of C0151. Turning right here, you will follow along the road over the next 2.0mi in order to arrive back at the car park where you began your day on the Talybont Reservoir Walk.
