Be sure to wear long trousers and proper walking boots to better traverse this terrain. Additionally, you should arrive early to the trailhead, as parking will be limited. Lastly, you will be making your way through some fields, so keep your dog on a lead at all times to avoid interactions with any livestock that may be present.

If you are looking to experience the scenic views of several different waterways within Brecon Beacons National Park, then the Talybont-on Usk Circular Walk is a great route to do so. In addition to the sweeping views across the charming Welsh countryside, you will have a great sightline overlooking the River Usk and Talybont Reservoir, which only add to the natural beauty of the area. This is an excellent walking route for both casual and experienced walkers alike.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way south along the road for a few paces, before picking up the trail that runs east, parallel to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Following this path to the southeast for the next 1.89mi, you will be able to relax along the water’s edge and take in the natural beauty of your surroundings, before arriving at a junction in the trail.

Turn left here and pass through the gate, continuing on until you arrive at the edge of the bridge that spans the canal. After making your way across the bridge, you will pick up the footpath branching off to the left and follow it for the next 0.99mi, traversing the undulating countryside while taking in the views of the River Usk to the east. Eventually, you will meet up with a road and follow it to the right for a short distance, picking up the path on the left near a cattle grid.

From here, you will descend the forested hillside towards the Talybont Reservoir, making a sharp right onto the Brinore Tramroad in order to follow it north through the forest. Take some time to appreciate the tranquil woodland setting and intermittent fields over the next 1.58mi, as you work your way north along the hillside to arrive back at the trailhead where you began the Talybont-on-Usk Circular Walk.
