The Silverton Falls hike is more of a short walk than a hike, however, it is worth it. If you are looking for something along the Bow Valley Parkway to explore but you are short on time, this is an excellent choice. You won’t need much on this hike as it will take you less than an hour to complete.

Getting there
From the town of Banff, travel westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway until you reach Castle Junction. Take the exit here with signs for Radium Hot Springs. Turn right and cross the bridge. Take a right onto Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A). After 1.9mi, turn left into the Rockbound Lake trailhead parking lot.

Silverton Falls Hike Description
The hike to Silverton Falls is a fun, short hike, though be aware that although easy, it doesn’t have the protective barriers that nearby Johnston Canyon does. This means you will have to keep your children close, and there are two instances where you’ll want to hold their hands. In addition, the final viewing location is about the size of a king-size bed, and some people may feel it is a bit too exposed.
The hike leaves the parking lot by the trail kiosk. There is a map here that you can use to orient yourself before taking off. Travel along the wide dirt path for 984ft until you arrive at the Silverton Falls junction. This is signed and marked clearly, don’t be tempted to take any inviting side trails that are not signed.
Turn right at the sign and continue on the trail for 0.4mi. The trail follows Silverton Creek to the falls. Silverton Falls is roughly 164ft high and is an excellent side trip from the Bow Valley Parkway.
Historically, there was a small mining town here called Silverton. The town became defunct in 1883, leaving its namesake behind with the falls.
