Petroleum and Anderson Lakes Trail Description

The Petroleum and Anderson Lakes Trail is an amazing adventure that reveals the stunning high-country scenery. The trailhead, already located at a high elevation, saves a technical and demanding ascent to the lakes. Instead, the trek up to the pools is gradual, easygoing, and undeniably beautiful. Take note that the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, demanding a vehicle with high ground clearance. Additionally, it is worth noting the road is subject to seasonal closures.

Embark on your adventure along the Petroleum and Anderson Lakes Trail from the Anderson Lake Trailhead. From here, track southwest through the alpine tundra along the snowmelt streams. Not long after your departure from the trailhead will you reach the shores of Anderson Lake. Arguably the most scenic lake of the two, take some time to revel in the views of the crystal-clear lake hemmed by craggy snow-capped cliffs. When you are ready, track the Petroleum Lake Trail to the final lake.

Situated just below Larson Peak, this pool also reveals awe-inspiring scenery. Admire the views, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
