Route Description for Monte Molare
The hike starts when you go right at the first “Y“ in the road on Via Santa Croce AFTER you pass the Santuario Del Sacro Cuore E Dell’Addolorata in Agerola. We find it’s easiest to check the map for this because it can be easy to miss.
When you go right you’ll follow a paved road as it goes up. You’ll pass by some abandoned houses and to some active farms. Keep going straight and you will see a path that goes up into the forest. Follow it.
The forest path will grow in altitude until you reach a clearing on a hill. Here you must follow the path that goes to the left. Go on for a while until you reach a crossroad: pay attention here. You will see three different paths: one in front of you, one at your left and one, less visible, at your right. Go toward the right path!
From there, follow the path for while. It crosses the mountainside, so at a certain point you will find views of the Vesuvius Volcano and the Gulf of Naples. Continue to walk along this path until you see a small rocky mound. Climb up on it following the red and white signs. Shortly after that you will find path 350 designated by the CAI (The Italian Alpine Club). Go left and follow that path.
At some point you will find a natural water source. Some say you can safely drink water as it comes from the mountain. We, of course, would always caution against this because you can never be sure what lies up stream, but the choice is yours!
Continue along the path which – from now on – will be steeper, and go on until you arrive at a crossroad. Here you will find a signboard. Follow the direction to Monte Molare at your left. After a bit, you will arrive just bellow the top of the mountain.
Walk up that rocky trail – which goes up the mountain – and enjoy the 360° view.
Come back the same way.

Being a long and - in some points - difficult hike, start this hike early in the morning. You wouldn't want to go back through the forest in the dark.
Although it can be very hot, we strongly recommend pants because of the thick vegetation along the trail can scrape your shins!
