This trail is a difficult - yet short - hike and we recommended it for people looking get their heart pumping and legs burning. It is a must if you're searching for a little adventure and a lot of jaw-dropping panoramas on your walk.
Getting there
Once in Agerola, you should proceed to Paolo Capasso Square in Bomerano, an hamlet of Agerola. Once there, proceed to Via Paipo until the road ends, becoming an unpaved path. You should be able to park on the side of Via Paipo.

Route Description for Monte Canino
Walk through the woods at the end of Via Paipo until you reach a rocky path. From the rocky path, start following the CAI’s (Italian Alpine Club) red and white markers, gaining altitude. You will find yourself in Capo Muro, a crossroad recognizable by a funky, fungus-shaped rock formation with three different paths and a signboard that indicates different hiking paths. Walk Northwest toward the mountain. Don’t get confused by some signs that indicates paths on your left, just go straight. Here the CAI signs will almost completely vanish, so keep track of your steps and continue going straight towards Catello mountain.
Once you reach 3937ft of altitude, you will find a rock with two arrows. Follow the arrow that indicates left. You won’t see a clear path or as many CAI markers – but don’t get scared – just keep going on following the mountainside, until you reach an overhead passage.
As you are climbing you’ll notice that underneath your feet there is a 1640ft (at least!) drop and on your left the Sorrentine Peninsula and Positano. Follow the path as it goes towards the mountain. You will arrive at an exposed rock. Here you may find goats grazing and they might stop and stare at you. Just keep calm and let them pass; the herder will surely be near by to take them away.
Now you will start the final part of the hike. You may need to use your hands to climb up the path and at points it might seem like a bit of a rocky landslide. You will reach a ridge that divides Monte Catello from Monte Canino. You’re going to want to keep left and go up the summit of Monte Canino, or Monte di Mezzo. You will reach the top and a majestic view will spill out before you: Naples to your right, Mount Molare in front of you, and Positano below you and to your left.
You will return on the same path, or – if you want – you can follow the path 329e, which goes the other way to Mount Catello, giving you some good views of Agerola, the Amalfi Coast and Cilento.

Insider Hints
To come by bus from Amalfi take the SITA bus for Agerola, then stop in Bomerano. Once there, follow the signs for Via Paipo.
If you want to bus from Sorrento you must take two SITA buses: the first one stops in Amalfi. The second for Agerola will take you to Bomerano.
The path is not signed, so this hike is only for experienced hikers.
Sturdy boots are needed to help you scramble up the rocks.
Take with you a light jacket with you. Clouds can quickly surround the mountain and stick around for at least 20-30 minutes.

It was a difficult trail for us, but the views are rewarding. Bring a jacket with you because fogs are really forming fast in this place. Overall, it was a nice and fantastic hike.
