Difficulty Rating:
Although this is an easier walk, this is one of the most beautiful trails you can hike on the Coast. You won’t want to miss sitting on the little Capitiello beach with a privileged view of Capri and its Faraglioni (wave-carved rocks in the bay) in front of you.
Getting there
Make your way to the City of Nerano. The parking is in the little square near a church. Starting from the little square in Nerano, head to Via Ieranto.

Route Description for Bay of Ieranto
The path starts with a little climb and – after the short, steep walk – you will be at front of the door of the writer Norman Douglas. It is here that he found the inspiration to write his novel “Sirenland”.
As you continue walking, you will find a stunning view of the little village of Marina del Cantone, with its cobalt sea to your left, and limestone face of Mount San Costanzo on your right.
Going on, you walk around the mountain at a low point to cross to the other side. Once you’re around, you’ll have the first beautiful view of the Bay of Ieranto: on your right, a barren mountain side, and in front of you, the bay and Capri island.
Continue straight. You’ll eventually begin your climb down the old rock stairs to find a 180° jaw dropping view. After 1969ft, you’ll arrive at a crossroad with a CAI (the Italian Alpine Club) signboard. Go to the right, following the direction for the beach.
Keep going down until you reach a second signboard and keep right to get to the beach.
Few steps later, you arrive to the best part of the hike: the Capitiello beach, a narrow alcove with crystalline water and an astonishing view of Punta Campanella and Capri.
Take your time here to rest and to enjoy that unique seascape.
After, take the trail back to the crossroad and go right toward the CAI buildings. Continue the trail until the end on Punta Penna. Now that you’ve made it to the land’s end you can turn around and go back the same way you came in.

Insider Hints
Despite the wind, it can be very warm in summer. Take your sunscreen and hat with you.
Being a short, popular hike, we strongly advise to do it in the afternoon, so you will find less people on your path and hopefully you will have the beach to yourself.
To get here by bus from Sorrento, take the SITA bus for S.Agata. Once there, take the bus for Nerano.
To get here by bus from Amalfi, take the bus for Bv S.Agata – Priora – Sorrento, and stop at Bivio S.Agata. Then take the bus to Nerano.
Take your swimsuit!
