Uncover the history of our wonderful national forests on the Ant Flat Historical Site Nature Trail. This pleasant trail is short, but the area is adorned with information signs detailing the history and ecology of the site. Explore the historic buildings and indulge in the beauty of the encompassing mountainous landscape. Note this route is wheelchair accessible and stroller friendly.
Setting out from the parking lot off Ant Flat Road, the scenic nature trail guides visitors northwest towards the historic Ranger Stations that have converted into an environmental education center. Take the time to tour around the grounds and read up on the history of the Kootenai National Forest. From here, you can continue further west towards a swath of forest, crossing the Brimstone Creek along the way.
After some hiking, you will reach the trail’s end. From here, simply turn around and retrace your footing back to the trailhead—marking the end of your outdoor educational experience.
