Jennie Lake Trail Description
The Jennie Lake Trail would make an excellent addition to intermediate hikers’ or ambitious beginners’ hiking itineraries in the Boise National Forest. This lovely trail explores a variety of ecosystems, meandering along Rocky Creek up to the hidden oasis in the Boise Mountains. Winding through shaded and exposed terrain, it is wise to dress in layers as insurance against changing terrain. Note rocks and roots are obstructing the single-track path, so be sure to mind your footing and wear a sturdy pair of footwear to avoid rolling an ankle.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Jennie Lake Trail begins the consistent climb into the wooded creek valley. Traveling northeastward, the path will alternate through lush grasslands and forests of ponderosa pines and Douglas fir, carpeted with wildflowers. Minding your footing and keeping an eye out for wildlife, the grade will intensify as you near the lake. Curving southeastward, scenes of Wolf Mountain will unfold before you.
After some hiking, you will reach the shoreline. Dip your tired feet in the rejuvenating waters and marvel at the grandeur of the flanking granite ridges. When you are through admiring the beauty of the landscape, retrace your footing down the path to the trailhead.
