Chorro Grande Trail Description

The Chorro Grande Trail is an amazing adventure through Jeffrey pine, sugar pine, and white fir trees abundant with wildlife, including deer, bears, woodpeckers, and red-tailed hawks. Immerse yourself deep into the wilderness and reconnect with nature along this tranquil trail. This incredibly scenic adventure is not for the faint of heart, demanding the navigation of steep terrain, so make sure you are well prepared. Wear a sturdy pair of footwear and pack plenty of water to stay hydrated along the way! Note that much of the trail is exposed, so wear a hat and SPF to beat the effects of the sun.

The Chorro Grande Trail departs from the trailhead off Maricopa Highway. Setting out from here, the Chorro Grande Trail will gradually climb into the wilderness. In the spring and summer months, you will enjoy the sights of vibrant wildflowers flanking the path. Enjoy the lush scenery and the views of the encompassing mountains as you climb. Eventually, the path will intersect with several seasonal creeks before reaching a junction with the Gypsum Mine Road. Beyond this point, the Chorro Grande Trail will increase in intensity, demanding the navigation of several switchbacks up the rocky terrain.

After maneuvering the winding terrain up to the Reyes Peak Campground, you will be rewarded with awe-inspiring vistas of the encompassing landscapes. Revel in the topographic diversity of the California coast, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
