Davy Brown Loop Trail Description

Escape into the backcountry and reconnect with nature along this stunning hike. Enjoy the quintessential arid environment of the Los Padres National Forest, abundant with chaparral shrubs and oak trees. If you are lucky, you may even observe a Californian condor soaring above. Note that much of this route is exposed, so be sure to wear SPF and pack plenty of water to stay hydrated along the way! Additionally, the route is overgrown in areas, so use the trail GPS and be mindful of poison oak flanking the path.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Davy Brown Trail descends northeast into a forested valley. Enjoy the lush forestlands adorned with vibrant wildflowers and wildlife. Soon after your departure, you will encounter an intersection—from here, you can hike in either direction, but we headed left, traveling clockwise along the Davy Brown Trail. Soon you will be rerouted right, wandering into the Davy Brown Campground along the meandering creek. At the trail’s end, merge onto the Munch Canyon Trail.

This path will guide you up through a forested canyon via several switchbacks and back to the junction with the Davy Brown Trail. From here, head south, retracing your footing along the route back to the trailhead.
