Piedra Blanca Formations Trail Description

The Piedra Blanca Formations Trail is a hidden gem in the Los Padres National Forest that affords hikers of all ages a good time. Explore the unique rock formations that adorn the arid terrain and revel in the expansive views of the encompassing mountains. As you wander, it is important to be mindful of sunbathing rattlesnakes, and poison oak. Additionally, the entirety of this route is exposed, so be sure to wear SPF. Note adventurers may have to navigate a few creek crossings, and an Adventure Pass is required for this hike.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Piedra Blanca Formations Trail follows the Sespe River Trail southeast over Lion Canyon Creek and Sespe Creek. After crossing Sespe Creek, you will confront an intersection, veer left here, and you will be diverted onto the Gene Marshall- Piedra Blanca National Recreation Trail. This path will redirect you northwardly through the unique rock garden. Take the time to explore the impressive boulders and enjoy the scenes of the mountainous wilderness.

Though you can turn around at any point, we ventured this route to the next crossing at the intersection of Piedra Blanca Creek. To get back to the trailhead, simply turn around and retrace your steps.
