Hagerman Tunnel Trail Description
The Hagerman Tunnel Trail is a wonderful adventure. Short and sweet, this trek is suitable for explorers of almost all skill levels! Enjoy sights of the snow-capped Sawatch Mountain peaks that line the horizon and views of the shimmering Hagerman Lake as you make your way to the historical railroad tunnel. When hiking in the winter months, be sure to trade your hiking boots for snowshoes or microspikes to safely navigate the likely icy, snow-cloaked terrain. Note there are a few collapsed railroad tracks, so mind your footing.
Embark on your adventure around the Hagerman Tunnel Trail from the Colorado Midland Centennial Trailhead. From here, track the path southwest along the sparsely shaded tree lined path. Eventually, the route will make a dramatic turn northeast, traveling along the rail bed. Follow the Colorado Midland Centennial Trail all the way to the glittering waters of Hagerman Lake. Enjoy the scenery of the picturesque lake and let your pup rehydrate before continuing your voyage.
Soon you will arrive at the Hagerman Lake East Portal. Explore the cave which will transport you back in time. Once you are done admiring the cave, head southeast, passing a small creek before reconnecting with the Colorado Midland Centennial Trail. From here, begin retracing your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
