Swamp Lake Trail Description
Unfortunately, the Swamp Lake Trail fails to live up to its name. Though the woodland path guides hikers to a collection of lakes, they are anything but swampy. Instead, the inviting swamps are clear, encircled with lush vegetation, and on calm days, they mirror the impressive snow-capped summits that sit in the background. Open year-round, this trek is a crowd favorite when it comes to snowshoeing. With the perfect ratio between tree shade, exposed meadowlands, manageable terrain, and epic mountain views, how could you go wrong? Though beautiful all year, we may have to agree with the majority, the snow-cloaked terrain creates a magical ambiance.
Embark on your adventure along the Swamp Lakes Trail from the Kearney Park Trailhead. From here, head west along the Kearney Park Trail, guiding hikers below the timberline. Traveling west, the path will soon enter the Mount Massive Wilderness. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection at Kearney Park. Here, keep left and you will be diverted onto the Swamp Lake Trail.
Enjoy the shade of sweet-smelling pines as you near the lakes. Soon you will encounter the charming waters. Explore the shores of the lakes and revel in the grandeur of the snow-capped peaks that sit in the background. Admire the scenery, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
