If you are after a relaxing adventure in Cairngorms National Park that features laidback terrain and plenty of local history, then the Ballater and Old Railway East Walk will be an ideal trail for you to explore.
Setting out from the trailhead in the heart of Ballater, you will follow the old railway line to the northeast, leaving the village behind for the open countryside. Travelling parallel to the River Dee, you will soon pass by Tullich Chapel and the Souterrain, a 2,000 year old underground grotto thought to have been used either as a hiding place or for crop storage. Continuing on the path, you will soon arrive at the Cambus o’ May Cheese Factory, denoting the end of the trail.
