The Valley of the Rocks and Lynton Outer Loop is a wonderful excursion in Exmoor National Park that will lead you along the North Devon Coast for spectacular views. The trail will take you through the village of Lynton and along the edge of the cliff for some views of the Bristol Channel before looping by Lee Abbey on the uphill climb that will bring you back to the trailhead. There are some sections of uphill walking that can be a bit tiring, but the breathtaking views along the coast are enough to make you forget all about it.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Valley of the Rocks and Lynton Outer Loop from Lynmouth, head west on Lynmouth Hill for 0.3mi and turn right onto Castle Hill, following it for 0.2mi. Continue straight onto Church Hill for 195ft and then keep straight onto Lee Road for another 0.1mi. Make a left onto Cross Street, where you will find the car park on the left in 150ft.

Valley of the Rocks and Lynton Outer Loop Description
While many visitors to Lynton may choose to complete a shorter version of this walk, the Valley of the Rocks and Lynton Outer Loop will allow you to better appreciate the natural beauty of the coastal areas within Exmoor National Park. Setting out from the trailhead in Lynton, you will make your way along the rugged coastal terrain and pass through the ultra-scenic location known as the Valley of the Rocks. Here, the hillside perfectly frames the water of the Bristol Channel and makes an ideal location for taking photos. Continue along the trail as it bends to the southwest and passes by the Gothic-style structure of Lee Abbey before climbing up the relatively steep hillside to the northwest for some more absolutely stunning views overlooking the water. From here, it is a quick descent back into the trailhead, where you can continue to explore the charming streets of Lynton.
