Woodbury and East Devon Commons Walk Description
Although the Woodbury and East Devon Commons Walk is a family-friendly and laid back adventure, there are still a few things to take into consideration before setting out on your walk. As there is a variety of terrain in the area, you should always consider wearing proper walking boots with good support; however, if you are planning to walk this route in the winter/spring seasons, then water-resistant footwear is recommended. Additionally, there are a number of intersecting paths along the trail, so a GPS or trail map will come in handy when trying to stick to the correct route. Lastly, if you are travelling with children or dogs, be sure to keep an eye on them, as passing bikers could pose a potential hazard if you aren’t paying attention.
Setting out from the trailhead, this route will first take you to the south, climbing gently up the hillside through a lovely stretch of forest. From here, you will turn to the northwest and pass by the shores of the Squabmoor Reservoir before traversing an undulating expanse of forest. After crossing over the road, you will navigate the rugged terrain of the Blackhill Quarry and enjoy views across the manmade pools of water before turning back to the southeast on the return leg of the walk back to the trailhead.
