The Patterdale to Pooley Bridge Trail is a wonderfully scenic Lake District adventure that will expose you to some of the hilly terrain that this region is famous for. While out on the trail, you will ascend and descend a number of fells while enjoying breathtaking views across Ullswater before making your way down to the edge of the lake for the final leg of the journey to Pooley Bridge. This is a one-way journey, so you will need to make prior arrangements for a pick up or plan to catch the 108 bus line from Pooley Bridge back to Patterdale.
Getting there
To reach the Patterdale to Pooley Bridge trailhead from Glenridding, drive south on A592 for 1.1mi and turn right to enter the car park.

Walking the Patterdale to Pooley Bridge Trail is a popular Lake District activity for those who want a bit of a longer distance route with stunning views of surrounding fells and the blue expanse of Ullswater. Setting out from the trailhead just outside Patterdale, the route will lead you to the northeast across Goldrill Brack to begin the steep climb uphill across the undulating Lake District landscape. Here, you will traverse a grassy ridgeline along the summits of Beda Head and Alan Crag before descending the hillside toward the edge of Ullswater. As you continue along the edge of the scenic lake, you will traverse the lower slopes of several rugged fells that include Bonscale Pike and Arthur’s Pike before skirting around the summit of Heughscar Hill on the way to Pooley Bridge. Upon reaching the end of the trail, you can spend some time exploring the charming village while waiting for your ride, or take the bus back to the trailhead where you began.
