While out on the trail, you will traverse the rugged summit of Black Fell and continue south to eventually reach the viewpoint atop Tom Heights that overlookings the charming setting of Tarn Hows. Make sure to arrive early for this pleasant stroll through the picturesque English countryside.
Getting there
To reach the roadside parking area for the Black Fell and Tarn Hows Circular Walk from the Ambleside Rugby Club, drive west on the A593 for 425ft and turn left to continue on for another 2.0mi. Make a right onto B5343 and you will find roadside parking on the left.

Walking the Black Fell and Tarn Hows Circular is a popular Walk in the Lake District due to the relatively easy-going terrain and breathtaking views, both from the summit of Black Fell and the area surrounding Tarn Hows. Setting out from the village of Skelwith Bridge, you will cross the open countryside to the south and begin climbing uphill, eventually reaching the summit of Black Fell. After enjoying the views, you will descend the hillside and loop around Tarn Hows, enjoying a lovely sightline across the water as you gain elevation along Tom Heights on the return to the village where you began.
