The Harrop Tarn Circular Walk is a quick 2.9mi adventure that will take you through a variety of terrain to reach the calm waters of Harrop Tarn. While out on the trail, you will walk along the western shores of Thirlmere and climb uphill through the forest to visit the small lake before descending a boggy stretch of land back to the trailhead. This route is perfect for a relaxing weekend stroll in the Lake District.
Getting there
To reach the car park for the Harrop Tarn Circular Walk from Thirlmere, head south on the A591 for 3.9mi and turn right, continuing on for 1.1mi until you find the car park on the left.

Harrop Tarn Circular Walk Description
Although the Harrop Tarn Circular Walk is a fairly easy undertaking, there is a bit of variation in the terrain of the route that could prove to be troubling. To traverse the mixture of moorland and hillside terrain, be sure to wear proper walking boots. For your convenience, there are also toilet facilities located near the car park.
Setting out from the Dob Gill Car Park, follow the road north as it skirts along the forested shores of Thirlmere, enjoying some scenic views of the lake before picking up the trail on the left side of the road. From here, the trail will turn to the southwest and begin the steep climb uphill through the forest. Take some time to appreciate the tranquil setting along the forest trail that will eventually lead you to the calm waters of Harrop Tarn. After taking in the sights, follow the trail to the southeast, as it descends the hillside through a boggy stretch of terrain that will lead you back to the edge of the road. From here, it is a quick walk along the road to the north that will eventually bring you back to the car park where you began your adventure.
