The Torrent Walk is a lovely choice for families, friends, or simply anyone that loves a good riverside outing. The shores of the Afon Clywedog make for a beautiful walk, with woods full of oak trees and bluebells to explore. It’s a simple circuit along both sides of the river, with convenient access from the town of Dolgellau less than three miles away.
Getting there
To get to the Torrent Walk, head east from the town of Dolgellau along the A470. In just under 3.1mi, turn left onto the B4416. About 328ft past the bridge, you’ll spot a lay-by area to pull over and park, with a sign marking the Torrent Walk path.

Torrent Walk Description
After parking, walk back towards the bridge, pass the first sign for the Torrent Walk, then take a right at the second. Head through the kissing gate and cross a wooden bridge. The rest of the walk follows the Afon Clywedog River up to an intersecting road and back again.
You’ll descend along the first half of the walk, and as you progress further through the ravine, you’ll come to three large boulders that were brought here by glacial movement many thousands of years past. When you reach the road, turn right over Pont Clywedog and then right again to follow the river back uphill, but on its other (northern) side. Stroll back through the fragrant woods along beautiful tumbling waterfalls until you reach the road you arrived on
