East Canyon Trail Description
The East Canyon Trail works its way north alongside the rushing waters of Gold Creek as it extends into Golden Ears Provincial Park. The trail itself can be easily navigated, thanks to well-maintained paths and minimal changes in elevation, but the route is largely forested, which somewhat limits the views on offer. Even with the heavy tree cover, this is still an amazing hike that has a few scenic vantage points up its sleeve, where hikers can catch some truly awesome views of the beautiful BC wilderness.
Setting out from the Gold Creek parking lot, hikers will make their way west along the trail before turning left at the junction with the East Canyon Trail. Following this path north, you will cross over several streams on your way through the dense forests of Golden Ears Provincial Park. Eventually, you will approach a series of junctions to the left that descend to two viewpoints for the Upper and Lower falls. These detours are optional, so plan to tack a few extra minutes onto your hike if you want to make your way down to the falls.
After the series of junctions, continue on the main trail for 1.1mi, where you will find a toilet on your right and a trail on your left. Take the trail to the left and make your way down to Viewpoint Beach for a stunning view of the mountainous backdrop as you explore the creekbed. Make your way back to the East Canyon Trail and go left, keeping on the route for another 800m, as it meanders alongside the creek. Reaching a creek crossing, you will have completed the “out” portion of your hike. Make your way back along the same route to return to the parking lot, having completed the East Canyon Trail.
