Coquitlam River Trail Description

The Coquitlam River Trail is a 5.7mi out-and-back route that can become fairly busy on weekends and during peak hours, as it is an easy trail with gentle terrain and a beautiful woodland atmosphere. Therefore, it is best to arrive early to the trail to secure parking at the trailhead and beat the crowds along this scenic riverside walk.

This is a laid back route that meanders alongside the Coquitlam River on the western edge of Pinecone Burke Provincial Park. While there aren’t any highlights or viewpoints directly on the trail, the route does offer some scenic waterside views with a quaint woodland backdrop. Additionally, hikers will have the opportunity to take a brief detour off the main trail to visit the majestic Crystal Falls.

Setting out along the trail, follow it north into the dense tree cover to begin your journey alongside the river’s edge. Stay left at any junctions to keep the river by your side. After 1.7mi, you will reach a junction to the right that splits off to a viewpoint for Crystal Falls. Choosing this optional detour will add a few extra minutes onto your hike, but will allow you to take in the beauty of Crystal Falls and its cascading water.

Back on the main trail, continue north alongside the Coquitlam River for another 1.0mi to reach the trail’s end. To return to the carpark, simply retrace your steps along the trail and keep the river on your right to return to the trailhead.
