Birchover and Stanton Moor Walk Description
The Birchover and Stanton Moor Walk is a fantastic outdoor activity in Derbyshire that will take you through the village and uphill along the moor for some spectacular views across the Derbyshire countryside. Make sure to wear proper footwear for this walk as stretches of the trail can be wet/boggy, and there is a small amount of elevation gain.
Setting out from the trailhead near Ivy Bar Brook, follow the path south initially before it turns to the north and begins to climb uphill along the edge of Cratcliff Wood. Soon, you will arrive at the Hermit’s Cave, and a bit further on the trail will lead you to a scenic lookout at Robin Hood’s Stride. After taking in the views, head back to the east to cross over the B5056.
From here, pass through the village of Birchover and make your way uphill through the rugged terrain of Stanton Moor. From this elevated position, you will have spectacular views overlooking the farms and villages of Derbyshire and can even explore the Bronze Age cairns that can be found on site. After taking in the views, follow the trail back downhill to once again make your way through the village to the starting point of the walk.
