Getting there

Take the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93N) towards Jasper, and travel 22.4mi to the Panther Falls parking lot. This parking lot rests on the right-hand side of the highway after a major landmark called “the big bend.” This is a large curvature in the highway that climbs a steep hill after a 180-degree bend. If you reach Parker’s Ridge, you have gone too far.

Panther Falls Trail Description

The hike to Panther Falls has no technical terrain or difficult sections. It is a short trail leading straight to the impressive 217ft waterfall. You will be able to hear the falls roaring from the parking lot, so you will know you are in the right spot.

From the trailhead, take the dirt path, which despite being so short, is incredibly diverse. You will travel along the side of the rock bands on a path that may seem a bit dangerous to some. It is sturdy and wide enough to travel safely. Views of nearby peaks come into view as you continue. When you reach the falls, you will be able to walk right up to the edge of the water and take in the powerful sounds of water rushing past you! Return the way you came.

Insider Hints

  • Add the trip to Bridal Veil Falls for some more distance

  • Stop here to stretch the legs and take in some sights along your Icefields Parkway Drive
