Route Description for Galloping Goose to Thetis Lake
Set out on the Galloping Goose to Thetis Lake bike ride from downtown Victoria at the Greater Victoria Visitors & Convention Bureau. Set out heading left on Wharf St., and onto the bike path on the Johnson Street Bridge. Note that most of this ride follows a dedicated bike trail, though some street riding in bike lanes is required.
Turn right almost immediately past the bridge onto Harbour Road, following the trail along the water, onto Galloping Goose Trail. Follow the path until you reach the split for Selkirk Trestle bridge, crossing over it to remain on Galloping Goose Trail.
Head through quiet, residential neighbourhoods, making your way past Cecelia Ravine Park. Continue into a slightly busier section of the city, passing small storefronts and local businesses.
Follow the Galloping Goose Trail as it runs underneath the Trans-Canada Hwy, then bends to the left onto a bridge running parallel to the highway. Note, this path is also shared with pedestrians so give way.
Continue until the Galloping Goose Trail just hits Watkiss Way, where you’ll spot The Nest Cafe. This is a popular spot for bikers to stop for a coffee break and bike parking is readily available.
After a quick rest here, carry on and then take the turn off onto Six Mile Road towards Thetis Lake.
From the park entrance, you can bike all the way up to the lake to enjoy the glistening, pale blue waters, surrounded by a lush forest. There is a small beach here in case you’d like to take a dip and rest awhile.
Once you are ready, retrace your steps all the back to the car.
