Over 8 days on the South Tyrol Bike Tour, you’ll ride among these fantastic sites while enjoying comfortable accommodation chosen for you each night. Starting and ending in Bressanone, the oldest town in the area, you’ll have 5 full days of cycling routes to explore different sites including vineyards, a spa town, lakes, orchards, and the capital of South Tyrol. You can have a rest day on the last day, or you can explore on your own.

Visiting South Tyrol opens you up to a unique area where distinct cultures have intersected and evolved. In the hub of Bolzano, you’ll experience an Austrian-Italian blend where residents speak both Italian and German and where the food represents this fusion as well. Day 1 Arrive in Bressanone

You’ve arrived in the oldest town in Tyrol! Depending on when you arrive, explore the narrow streets this evening in search of your first of many Italian feasts. Settle into your hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2 Dobbiaco Circuit

Fill up on a lovely breakfast before today’s journey. You’ll first hop in a transfer to Dobbiaco where your bike will be waiting for you. From this stunning mountain town near the Austrian border, you’ll cycle back through a deep valley alongside the Rienz River. Today’s ride gives a memorable first impression of what the Dolomites have to offer.

Return to Bressanone for the night.

Day 3 Ride to Bolzano

Say ciao to Bressanone for now as you ride south through fragrant vineyards towards Bolzano. Feel free to stop along the way to sample some local grape juice, then take the recommended stop in Chiusa, a postcard-worthy town tucked in between green hills.

Continue to Bolzano to stop for the night, a larger town with sweeping views of green fields, forested hills, and the Dolomites in the background.

Day 4 Lake Kalter Loop

Today, you’ll do a 45-km loop around Lake Kalter, south of Bolzano. On the way, you’ll see the stunning Castle Signumndskron, then enter into Appiano, a well-known wine-producing area in Tyrol. The pastoral–chic scenes will impress you with farms, old churches, manors, and castles all around.

You can stop at Caldaro village to look at the Wine Growing Museum before curving around and heading back to Bolzano.

Distance: 4.5 hours, 45km

Day 5 Ride to Merano

After breakfast, you’ll ride to the next destination, passing by the great castle you saw yesterday. Then, you’ll start winding through orchards and more wineries (care for another glass?) before you hit a series of villages: Terlano, Nalles, and Lana. All are worth stopping into for a quick espresso.

You’ll end the day in Merano, a spa town with magical botanical gardens that definitely need to be visited while you’re here.

Distance: 3.5–4 hours, 35–40km

Day 6 Visit Malles

Early in the morning, you’ll hop a train to Malles through the Vinschgau Valley. Stop first in Glorenza, then continue through aromatic orchards and several hamlets before reaching Merano for another night.

Day 7 Cycle Vipiteno and Return to Bressanone

After breakfast, you’ll receive a transfer over Jaufenpass (2,092m) to reach Vipiteno to start your ride. If you want some extra downhill, you can hop out at the pass and cycle to reach Vipiteno, about 15km extra.

Cycle south through an immense green valley and continue to Bressanone. It’s your last night—find an inviting restaurant for a celebratory dinner.
