Explore the finest of South Ireland by car and by foot

The South of Ireland is a treasure chest of adventure, one of the world’s best destinations for self-guided exploration. On this 10-day driving and hiking tour, you’ll experience all the highlights this slice of the “Emerald Isle” has to offer at the pace which suits you best.

Touch down in Dublin and enjoy a night in the Irish capital. In the morning, set off in your rental vehicle for the woods to the south, where the ruins of an ancient monastic city lay scattered through Glendalough Valley. Then it’s a stop at the Rock of Cashel on your way to the gorgeous coastal town of Kinsale, with excellent cuisine and even better walks along the shore waiting for you. Head west to the first of four peninsulas on your journey and stroll out to the Sheep’s Head Lighthouse with remarkable views of the ocean and surrounding bays. Next is the Beara Peninsula, with nearly limitless options to explore, including remote Dursey Island and the sparkling Gleninchaquinn Park. The Ring of Kerry is perhaps the most famous route on this trip, and for good reason – its spectacular scenery greets you at every turn. Two nights in the cheerful seaside town of Dingle provide a chance to explore Slea Head, one of Ireland’s westernmost points. Drive north to the sublime Cliffs of Moher and discover the land behind the legends before overnighting amongst the traditional music scene of Doolin. Finally, a night in Galway ties a perfect Irish bow on your adventure, where you toast to an outstanding journey completed in style. Return to Dublin to close the trip.

With the freedom of your own car for exploring all the jewels in South Ireland, there’s no better tour to see it all!

Frequently Asked Questions about South Ireland Drive & Hike Adventure (10 Day)

Ireland Walk Hike Bike was set up with one purpose in mind – to show you the real Ireland that we know and love. Having watched many visitors “flash” through Ireland – founder Linda Woods decided back in 1994 to find a better way to see the country. “My aim was to slow people down, so they really get their feet into the soul of the country, meet the locals & discover what makes Ireland & the Irish tick………” and 25 years later – this is exactly what Ireland Walk Hike Bike is still doing today…

Whatever holiday you want – walk, hike, bike, more active than that or less active than that – we will be delighted to chat with you, help plan your holiday with you to ensure you have a really memorable trip to Ireland.

Is this tour for me?

We rate this tour as a 2/5. Most of the recommended hikes are fairly short and on stable terrain. However, there are some elevation changes involved, as well as surfaces such as grassy hillsides and open cliff tops, which can be wet underfoot in places. Good boots are essential, and previous hiking experience is recommended. You can freely tailor the hikes to suit your ability. In most cases, having a valid driving license of relevant category from your home country is enough (provided it’s in English), though there are some exceptions and you should double-check.
