Day 1 The Adventure Begins in Reykjavik

Meet your group and guide this morning in Reykjavik, and depart at 8 am, embarking on an exciting journey! The route will take the group eastward through the captivating mountains along Highway 1. You'll pass through the charming towns of Hveragerði and Selfoss, continuing your adventure through Dómadalsleið into the breathtaking highlands.

Before reaching your cozy cabin, Landmannahelli, you'll embark on a scenic hike up to the magnificent Rauðufossar, immersing in their natural beauty and exploring their origins. You'll settle into the cabin at Landmannahellir, where you'll spend the next three nights.
Overnight Location: Mountain Hut, Landmannahellir
Distance: 3-4 hours, 10 km
Meals: Lunch, dinner

Day 2 Explore the Geological Wonderland of Landmannalaugar

Today, the adventure begins by driving into Landmannalaugar, a journey of about 30 minutes. a geological wonderland, offering a surreal and enchanting natural experience for those who venture into its diverse and colorful landscapes. It's a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the raw beauty of Iceland's Highlands and appreciate the forces that have shaped this captivating region. Here, you'll immerse yourselves in the largest and most stunning rhyolite area in the country, embarking on an adventurous hike. The trail leads through Blágil, up Brennisteinsöldu, down Vondugil, and through Laugahraun, showcasing the mesmerizing landscape.

After the hike, you'll indulge in a relaxing soak in a hot bath in the river, savoring an ice-cold drink. You'll then drive back to the cabin in Landmannahellir.

Day 3 Summit Climb of Mount Löðmund

Today is dedicated to an exhilarating mountain climbing experience! You'll set out from the cabin, hiking up to the summit of Mount Löðmund, the highest peak in the Fjallabak region (1,077m). The summit offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of the southern part of the country in all directions.

As you descend, you'll take a refreshing dip in Löðmundarvatn (Löðmund Lake), adding to the adventure!

Day 4 Hike the Sigöldugljúfur Canyon and Return to Reykjavik

Today marks your return journey. You'll pack up and begin the hike from the cabin, heading towards Sigalda. Here, you'll embark on a memorable walk, exploring the awe-inspiring Sigöldugljúfur Canyon.

After about an hour of hiking, you'll continue your journey, admiring the majestic waterfalls of Háifoss and Granni. If time allows, you'll also stop at Gjáin before returning to Reykjavik in the late afternoon.

Accommodation on Hiking Iceland’s Fjallabak Nature Reserve

This tour is based in traditional mountain huts. The huts are basic but do provide running water, flushable toilets or outhouses, and fully-equipped kitchens. All of the huts are heated, some have electricity and some have hot water. They have bunk rooms with single and twin beds, participants have to be prepared to share a bunk with other travelers from the group. You can choose to bring your own sleeping bag or rent one from the tour company.

In some cases, the accommodation listed below may need to be substituted for other comparable accommodations.
