Cape Town & De Hoop Comfort Hiking Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Welcome to Cape Town
Meet your driver at the airport, transfer to your hotel. Relax and unwind for the evening. Your hotel is located in Camps Bay, a lively suburb of Cape Town with many shops and restaurants on the beachfront road that is quite close to the city centre but with incredible views of the Twelve Apostles (the back of Table Mountain) behind you and the ocean out in front. Your hotel is situated just a short walk from the beach.
If you arrive on time and feel rested enough, there is an optional evening activity - a guided evening hike to the top of Lion's Head, one of the peaks situated in Cape Town itself (along with Table Mountain, Devil's Peak & Signal Hill). On a clear day, of which there are many in the Cape, this peak is a perfect place from which to watch the sunset while enjoying drinks & canapés, before heading back down.

Day 2 Guided hike to Cape Point
Today, you will enjoy a guided day out to Cape Point. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and take you to this protected nature reserve that has some of the most spectacular views of the Cape Peninsula stretching out below, as well as many opportunities to spot local fynbos (flora) and wildlife including buck, baboons & mountain zebra. Choose from leisurely routes starting at 3km to more difficult routes of 7.5km that wind through the shipwrecks, Old Lighthouse, beautiful sandy beaches, dunes, and even a local dam and tidal pool for an optional swimming opportunity. Be warned, the sun in the Cape can get very hot and the ocean water can be very cold!
There is also the option to visit Boulder's Beach en route to Cape Point to see the penguins and the option of taking the famously scenic 'Chapman's Peak' drive back from Cape Point which takes you right along the edge of the mountain with impressive sights of the expansive ocean and Cape Peninsula (if it is open).

Day 3 Walk up Table Mountain
Today, you will summit the biggest and most rewarding peak in Cape Town - Table Mountain. Your guide will meet you bright and early at your hotel to take you to the start of the hike. You will be able to discuss this with your guide in advance or on the day, but there are many different routes up the mountain.
Once at the top of Table Mountain, there is quite a bit to explore as well as a café to purchase some well-deserved refreshments. You can choose to walk back down the same way or take the cable car for a less strenuous option that also provides a different viewing perspective of the mountain and city.
Once at the bottom, you will be transferred back to your hotel. Your evening is at leisure - enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Camps Bay or head into the city centre (Kloof Street & Bree Street have great dining options) if you prefer.

Day 4 Head to De Hoop Nature Reserve
You will be transferred from Cape Town to De Hoop Nature Reserve. Here, you will be met by a qualified De Hoop guide. After a short safety briefing, you will immediately start the adventure! The reserve is home to more than 1500 different plant species and this route takes you through a downhill fynbos paradise called Flatrock for approximately 5.5/6.6km to Tierhoek. This area is rich with fynbos and Tierhoek offers gorgeous views of the vlei, while enjoying some refreshments and snacks. From there, you will be transferred to De Mond Villa, which is your accommodation for the duration of your stay.
A little dose of formalities follows once you reach your accommodation: check-in, familiarising yourself with your home for the duration of your stay. Enjoy the sunset over the vlei with a glass of Overberg wine - with a possible visit from the local Cape Clawless Otter family, before enjoying a delicious potjiekos dinner under the stars while your guide entertains you with the wonderful stories and history of De Hoop.

Melkkamer is a grand homestead dating from the 1800's, where you will have a delicious brunch. Don't get too comfortable though, because after brunch, we will take an eco boat cruise with your guide to the Opstal area, where you will be taken on a 7km walk with the Cape Mountain Zebra, duiker, bushbuck, Eland, Bontebok and ostriches through the fynbos and plains - before you make your way back to your Villa.
After snacks and drinks, cake and tea, you have the afternoon at leisure - a dip in the pool might be just the thing you need. Dinner will be a traditional South African braai paired with star stories while you gaze at the magnificent night skies.

After a quick coffee break, you will hike towards Wyoming - this is the last 7km of the popular Whale Trail. Be sure to take in the views and ocean breeze because after this, we will be hiking inland at Potberg.
You will be transferred from Wyoming to view the endangered Cape Vultures - the Western Cape's last surviving colony of these amazing birds, a +2km return walk up to the viewing deck. He enjoys introducing participants to his country’s vast, diverse scenery, from the animals of Kruger National Park in the North to St Lucia and the beautiful coastline, to the Drakensberg mountains and the Wine of the Cape.
- Q: What is your favourite trip to do and why?
- A: Probably touring from Cape Town to Vic Falls via Namibia and Botswana. It is pure Africa. The vibe of Cape Town and surrounds, to the vastness of the Namibian deserts and plains, to the breath-taking nature and wildlife of Botswana, to the amazing Victoria Falls.
- Q: What is your most unforgettable moment when guiding?
- A: I have 2 moments that I will never forget. The first one is a couple of years ago I had a group doing a 16-day tour from Johannesburg to Cape Town and on that tour was two sisters who got separated at a very young age and didn’t see each other again for about 50 years. One day they walked past each other in a supermarket and recognised one another. One of the local radio stations heard about the story and sponsored them a vacation to enjoy together, and I had the honour of having them on my tour and showing them our beautiful country.
- The second is the time that we were on safari in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, and we saw a pack of about 20 lions devouring the carcass of an elephant.
- Q: What is one local dish or drink that tourists must try on a visit to your country and why?
- A: It would most definitely be biltong and Amarula. Biltong is meat that is dried with a variety of spices, and it’s just too delicious for words. Amarula is a cream liqueur that is made from the fruits of the Marula tree and just goes down so nice after a long and hot African summer day.
