Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps are truly an awe-inspiring sight. This high mountain world offers a seemingly endless landscape of snow-capped peaks, beautiful lakes, charming small towns and bustling ski resorts, all under a brilliant blue sky. There's no bad time to visit the Alps as each season lets you enjoy the jaw-dropping natural beauty in a different way.

The Swiss Alps are home to literally hundreds of incredible mountains – many of which are more than 13123ft high – creating a stunning backdrop for outdoor adventures. The region is well connected by trains, railways, boats, cable cars and funicular lifts that help you get around and explore its amazing sights.

In the warmer months there's no shortage of routes to walk and hike, with a variety of trails for every level and ability. You can head out to kayak and canoe on the gin-clear lakes, or join a biking tour and ride from town to town. The high peaks and slopes also draw climbers, mountaineers and adrenaline seekers hell-bent on reaching the top of the highest peaks in the Swiss Alps.

By December, however, and it's all about winter sports. People come from all over the world to enjoy the legendary conditions and world-class powder that is perfect for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. There's nothing quite like ripping down the slopes and then partaking in some après ski activity while taking in the beautiful scenery of a Swiss mountain town.

Some of the most famous spots in the Swiss Alps are, of course, the peaks themselves. The magnificent Matterhorn is the most well-known, as well as Jungfrau which gives you unbelievable views of glaciers from the 'Top of Europe'. There are beautiful lakeside towns like Lucerne and Interlaken, and awesome resort areas like Zermatt and St. Moritz. The list goes on and on – truly a testament to the wonderland that is the Swiss Alps.
