Getting there
To get to Sovereign Lake from downtown Vernon, make your way to Pleasant Valley Road. Continue driving for 1.3mi before turning right onto Silver Star Road. Stay on this winding road for 11.5mi. To reach your destination, take a sharp left onto Sovereign Lake Road. Follow this road for 1.7mi, and the parking lot will be on your right.

Before you put on your snowshoes and hit up the Sovereign Lake Snowshoe Loop, you’ll need to pay for your ticket. It costs $8 for a full-day ticket for adults. This area boasts a network of trails, so it’s advised to bring a trail map or a GPS along with you to ensure you stay on the right path. You’ll find signs along the route, too. You’ll also have to walk a short distance to the trailhead from the parking lot.
Sovereign Lake is a popular go-to spot for Olympians, locals, and visitors. The area, replete with lanes of snow-covered trees, emulates a magical winter wonderland. It’s stunning here! To top it off, the Sovereign Lake Snowshoe Loop embodies the aforementioned scenic views and is excellent for all ages and skill levels.
From the trailhead, head north—the trail slightly veers northeast. At around 984ft, you’ll reach a junction, continue straight, cutting through Aberdeen. After approximately 1640ft, the path will take you to a loop. Go to the right to travel in a counterclockwise direction. Eventually, you’ll meet up with the initial trail, allowing you to return the way you came.

Are there dogs allowed on the trail?
No dogs are allowed on this trail, but you can check Sovereign Lake’s Pooch Pass to see which trails enable pups to join your outdoor escapade. You also must be an SLNC (Sovereign Lake Nordic Club) Member to take your dog on the trails with you.
How much does it cost for my child to snowshoe?
It costs $6 for children between the ages of 5-18. Adults and seniors must pay $8.
Can I rent snowshoes?
Yes, you can rent snowshoes at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club. Snowshoes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It costs $15 for an adult to rent for a full day and $12 for youth and seniors.
