Barker Reservoir is nestled in the mountains at the end of Boulder Canyon. A winter hike or snowshoe takes you to views of a picturesque landscape with the small mountain town of Nederland, Colorado in the background.

Getting there

From Boulder, Colorado, head up Boulder Canyon 119 towards Nederland (approximately 18.0mi). Crest over the Barker Reservoir Dam and take the first left onto East St. at the Post Office. Park at the large dirt parking lot at the shoreline.

Route Description for Barker Reservoir

As you crest over the Barker Reservoir Dam, it is not hard to see why this short and easy winter hike makes the Top 10 list.

The views of Barker Reservoir in the foreground with the town of Nederland, Eldora Mountain Resort and the Indian Peaks in the background is sure to have you reaching for your camera!

This out-and-back trail follows along the north shore of the reservoir, heading towards the dam. It is easy to do and rarely requires snowshoes, unless there has been a recent dump of snow.

If you’re new to snowshoeing, the trail along Barker Reservoir is a great one.

Turn back and return the way you came.

We visited this place a few years back, and I must say that it one of the most underrated trails in this park. It was the perfect winter wonderland for those who enjoy solitude.
