Snowshoeing to Stoney Lookout is a great way to explore a favourite summer trail in winter. You’ll feel like you have been transported to a winter wonderland while travelling through this quiet trail. Admire the forest as you make your way to the final lookout where you can look over the Town of Banff.

Stoney Lookout Snowshoe Trail Description

From the entrance to the Mount Norquay parking lot, find the trail sign on the right as you pull in. Begin your hike here and join the narrow forested path that leads gradually uphill. You will travel through lodgepole pine and spruce forest to the lookout reaching small openings with excellent views on the way.

Continue climbing until you reach the Stoney Lookout. This is the endpoint of this route that provides stunning views of the Town of Banff below and towering Cascade Mountain above.

There is a loop option that is used in the summer connecting to a ski run; however, we suggest returning the way you came has the best-maintained trail.
