Mount Robie Reid Trail Description
The Mount Robie Reid Trail is a serious undertaking that should only be considered by hikers that have a good knowledge of mountaineering practices and a wealth of experience. The route to the summit is long and physically demanding, requiring hikers to complete two 4th class climbs up very exposed sections of trail. Proper mountaineering gear is required for this climb and even then, the margin for error is slim. Additionally, weather conditions atop this rocky massif can change very quickly, making it necessary to monitor approaching weather patterns while on the hike. This is not a climb for inexperienced hikers and should ideally be attempted alongside a companion that is familiar with the route, as navigating can be difficult.
Dangers of the trail aside, this route is an absolutely stunning climb to one of Golden Ears Provincial Park’s most iconic peaks. From atop this imposing rocky outcrop, hikers will be treated to sights of mountaintop glaciers and sweeping views out over Stave Lake and the Fraser Valley. With a good level of fitness and enough experience, this legendary peak can be summited in a day, providing jaw-dropping views and the chance to add it to your list of conquered peaks.
From the parking area off of the Florence Lake Fire Service Road, follow the road north until you reach a junction with the Robie Reid Approach Trail. This route skirts along the water’s edge and enters Golden Ears Provincial Park. Follow the trail as it crosses over several streams and begins to climb uphill along a steep slope.
The final ascent to the summit is extremely technical and requires proper mountaineering gear and knowledge to accomplish the daunting task. After making your way up the false summit, you will need to traverse some very exposed terrain, before climbing the final summit block of the peak. Take a few moments to breathe in the fresh mountain air and take in the views – if the weather permits – before safely descending the summit and returning along the same route having conquered the Mount Robie Reid Trail.
