The Naramata Bench Road Cycle is an amazing long distance cycling route that will lead you through the terrain to the northeast of Penticton for some lovely views overlooking Okanagan Lake. While out cycling this trail, you will pass by the various vineyards along the Naramata Bench before climbing uphill towards Chute Lake to meet up with the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. It is best not to attempt this route on a road bike, as the return portion of the journey along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail is made up of gravel.

Naramata Bench Road Cycle Description

If you are looking for a lengthy cycling route that features a variety of terrain and beautifully scenic views of vineyards, lakes, and the vast expanse of the Okanagan Valley, then the Naramata Bench Road Cycle is a great option to get you out for a fun ride in the Penticton area. You should take note of the fact that this route features both paved roadways and gravel trails, which will make travel on a road bike a real challenge.

Setting out from the parking lot at the Penticton Secondary School, you will make your way to the northeast for an easy ride along Naramata Road, where you will pass by some lovely vineyards that feature stunning vistas overlooking Okanagan Lake. After skirting around the edge of the town of Naramata, you will climb uphill towards the Chute Lake Recreation Area, which makes for a great spot to stop for a quick snack with some scenic views across the surface of the small lake.

From here, you will get onto the Kettle Valley Rail Trail and follow it as it winds through the beautifully atmospheric woodland terrain that stretches out in the direction of Penticton. Eventually, the gravel path will edge towards the shores of Okanagan Lake, which makes for a pleasant return leg of the journey back into Penticton. Here, you will pass through the northeast part of the city and cross over Penticton Creek, where you will meet back up with Eckhardt Avenue and follow it back to the school where you began your adventure.
