Las Vegas
Who would think that Sin City would be surrounded by stunning nature? It’s true, there are great opportunities to get outside of the overwhelming lights of Vegas for a day of hiking, biking, climbing or canoeing. Plan a day exploring the stunning deserts and mountains nearby Las Vegas on your next visit there.
Las Vegas is a town famous for the attractions of The Strip. Great hotels, evening shows, restaurants and gambling are what makes this one of the world’s most famous cities. However next time you’re there, consider leaving the city for a daytrip to explore the nearby deserts, mountains and lakes. There is incredible nature all around Las Vegas.
We find exploring Las Vegas in summer too hot unless we are on a rafting trip on the Colorado River or exploring Lake Mead by boat. We usually confine our explorations between autumn and spring, where the temperatures are reasonable and heat exhaustion isn’t usually a worry. Don’t expect winter to be warm though, as snow can fall at elevation and you can often find a warm coat a necessity.
Whether you want to explore the stunning Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area or head a bit farther east to the Spring Mountains and Mount Charleston, there are lots of excellent hiking opportunities. Taking a road bike out to Red Rock or Charleston is also a great way to explore the area. The ride through the Cottonwood Valley to Lake Mohave is another spectacular ride.
Next time you’re in Las Vegas, get outside for a day exploring the beautiful Nevada desert.
