East Rim Overlook Trail Description
The East Rim Overlook trail is a great out-and-back hike for the whole family. Parts of this trail are sandy, so wear good shoes and be prepared for some more challenging sections. As with any hike in the desert, bring more water that you think you need and don’t forget to bring your camera—the views from the top are more than picture-worthy.
From the East Rim Trailhead off of route 9, follow the path north through Jolley Gulch and Cave Canyon. After about 1.6mi the trail will switch back on itself and head south/southwest as you begin to gain more elevation. The overlook point is only 0.5mi past this switchback.
At the overlook, take a moment to pause and admire the incredible views. If you are feeling adventurous, the East Rim trail continues on for many more miles, but if you are ready to return home, simply follow the same path back to the parking lot.
