Lewis Lake Trail Description
The Lewis Lake Trail is a fantastic hike in Yellowstone National Park. This trail can be buggy in the early summer. If you are hiking in June or July, bring along some bug repellent or wear long layers to combat the mosquitos. Besides just mosquitoes, you are likely to see elk, moose, and pronghorn along this trail. If you do encounter wildlife, do not feed them and be sure to admire all animals from a safe and respectful distance. This route sees relatively little traffic year-round and can be a great place to escape the crowds and enjoy Yellowstone in peace. With over eight miles of trail to explore, the Lewis Lake Trail is a gorgeous place to spend the day enjoying the Wyoming wilderness with loved ones.
Beginning at the trailhead parking lot, follow the Continental Divide Trail west along the north shore of Lewis Lake and up the east bank of Lewis River. At the first major bend in the river, turn around and retrace your steps back to the trailhead where you began.
If you are not ready to head home after your hike, you can head down to the Lewis Campground at the south end of the lake for a relaxing night under the stars.
