Fairy Falls Trail Description

The hike to Fairy Falls is a must-do in Yellowstone National Park. This trail is popular and does get very busy in the summertime. If you are hiking during tourist season, head out early in the day to beat the crowds. This trail is well-populated, but it is common to see large animals, including bison and elk, in the area. If you do see wildlife, do not feed them and be sure to admire all animals from a safe distance.

Fairy Falls itself is a breathtaking 200ft waterfall. This cascade is stunning at all times of the year, from the rushing water of the spring melt to the frozen beauty of winter. So no matter what time of year you visit Yellowstone National Park, a hike to Fairy Falls is a must-do.

To hike to Fairy Falls, begin at the trailhead and cross over the Firehole River. Follow Fountain Flat Drive northwest for a mile to a divide. At the divide, take the trail on your left and hike past Fairy Meadows to Fairy Falls.

Enjoy your time at Fairy Falls, and be sure to snap some photos before heading back the way you came. If you are looking for a longer hike, this trail can be extended along the Fairy Falls Trail to Imperial Geyser route.
