Mad River Trail Description

Mad River Trail is a fantastic outing, with great views, changing scenery, and lots of wildlife. It can be used for a longer day hike or you can make use of the frontcountry and backcountry camping areas to make a multi-day trip of it.

There is a river crossing on this trail that is subject to washout. Take your time and be cautious if the water flow is more aggressive.

Begin from the trailhead and set out on the path. You’ll find this trail steadily curves back and forth, left and right the entire way. This keeps the scenery fairly frequently changing. Elevation gain is gradual and spread out, allowing a good portion of the hike to feel relatively flat. This route guide ends about 6 miles up the river, but you can keep going if you wish, as the route continues. If not, turn back and retrace your steps.
