Llyn Geirionydd and Llyn Crafnant Trail Description
From the car park, turn left and then right at the base of the lake. You’ll quickly come to a junction – on the left is the path you’ll return on, so turn right to begin this circular walk. The first portion takes you along the western shore of Llyn Geirionydd, with wonderful views over the lake. Continue past the north shore of the lake, as the path contours around the hill and starts to bear left. Head for the Afon Crafnant, which can be crossed via footbridge. You’ll have to walk through an old mine building in order to get there.
Once you’ve crossed the bridge, you’ll find yourself on Crafnant Road, which leads from the village of Trefriw. You can follow this broad path all the way down the eastern shores of Llyn Crafnant. However, a more interesting route has you cutting left across from the car park and into the woods, where a narrower path leads parallel to the lake. Ascend as you go, the path bearing left about halfway down Llyn Crafnant. You’ll reach the highest point in the middle of this hill which separates the lakes before swiftly descending as the path bears right and then left again. This curves all the way back northward to meet up with the path you came in on, at the southern end of Llyn Geirionydd. Follow this back to the car park.
