Lllyn Cwm Bychan Circuit via The Roman Steps

From the shores of Llyn Cwm Bychan, set off on a path leading south over the rivers that flow into the lake. You should see a sign for the Roman Steps pointing to the right when you arrive. Despite the name, it’s more likely that these were laid down in medieval times for pack horses to navigate the terrain.

Stay left at the trail fork, continuing in a southeast direction. The trail steadily climbs as you enter the Rhinog National Nature Reserve, with the impressive peak of Rhinog Fawr looming on your right and the calm waters of Lly Morwynion on your left. At the next fork, stay left again and turn back towards the north. The mountain of Craig Winn will be on your left (it should always be, as this walk is essentially a loop around it). As you head west, the final leg of the walk sees some rapid elevation change as you hike up the slopes of Craig Ddrwg, then back down towards the lake where you began the circuit.
