Comanche Meadows Hike Description
Boasting a wealth of incredible scenery, this demanding trek is well worth the sweat. Indulge in awe-inspiring views of the Sierra Nevada’s craggy granite summits as you wander amid a variety of beautiful landscapes. Traveling through such diverse terrains, we encourage hikers to dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions. Additionally, SPF and sun protection is a must as much of the path is exposed. As you hike, be sure to be mindful of wildlife, including bears and deer! Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Setting out from the Rowell Trailhead, the Comanche Meadows Hike follows the Sugar Loaf Entrance Trail east, along the curves of Rowell Creek. Gradually climbing, the path will weave between exposed meadows and shaded swathes of forestland. As you hike, be sure to admire the beauty and grandeur of the peaks that dominate the horizon. Eventually, you will reach the highest point of your hike on the saddle between Mitchell Peak and Kettle Peak. From here, the path will plunge down into Comanche Meadow via switchbacks.
Revel in the picturesque meadow amid the rocky oasis and take in the 360-degree views. After relishing in the Sierra Nevada scenery, head back the way you came to the trailhead.
