Willis Lake Trail Description
There is no shortage of stunning scenery along the Willis Gulch Trail. Immerse yourself in a sea of golden aspens before trekking through dense pine woodlands and alpine tundras up to the crystal-clear lake. Though this trek does not summit a dramatic peak, it does expose some of the best high country views. Note: sections of this trek are rocky and steep, so we urge you to wear a pair of sturdy hiking shoes. Additionally, when adventuring in the late fall, consider bringing along a pair of microspikes as the terrain will likely be snow-packed and icy.
Begin your journey along the Willis Lake Trail from the Willis Gulch Trailhead. From here, track the Bermuda Triangle Trail east and merge onto the Bermuda Triangle Trail South at the first intersection. Briefly travel along this path before connecting with the Colorado Trail Collegiate West 01, heading south through the woodlands and along a stream. At the next junction, veer right and you will be diverted onto the Big Willis Gulch Trail. Follow this path as it guides you above the timberline and into the alpine tundra, where you will soon reach the shores of Willis Lake.
Revel in the views of the shimmering alpine lake bounded by towering snow-capped Colorado peaks and admire the grandeur of the encompassing cliffs before retracing your footing along the same route back to the trailhead.
