Half Moon Trail Description
The Half Moon Trail is an ideal adventure in the Mount of the Holy Cross Wilderness. Trekking through the lush pine forests, you will end your adventure at the Half Moon Pass. Let the fresh mountain air fill your lungs and leave the stressors of the real world in the rear-view mirror. When trekking in the summer months, you will be granted lovely views of the vibrant vegetation and sights of the dramatic peaks. Though this trek is open year-round, we highly suggest strapping on some microspikes and bringing along trekking poles during the winter.
Embark on your excursion along the Half Moon Trail from the Half Moon Trailhead. From here, track the Mount of the Holy Cross Trail west. Enjoy the shade of the sweet-smelling towering pines and keep an eye out for wildlife. Follow this route all the way to the Half Moon Pass which reveals sweeping vistas of the snow-capped Colorado 14ers.
You will meet the trail’s end at the East Cross Creek drainage. Rest and rehydrate here, reveling in the impressive sights of Mount of the Holy Cross looming above. When you are ready to return, retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
