Mount Tamalpais Loop Description
The Mount Tamalpais Loop is an amazing adventure that will put your stamina to the test. Though mountain bikers commonly use this route, it has recently gained popularity in the hiking community. When trekking, it is important to be mindful of passers-by! The path is uneven and rocky, with poison oak flanking the trail in sections, so long pants, a sturdy pair of footwear, and trekking poles are recommended. Additionally, much of the path travels along an old fire road as well as beneath the shade of conifers, so dress in layers as insurance against varying conditions. We recommend using the trail GPS to navigate this hike.
Embark on your adventure along the Mount Tamalpais Loop from the Old Railroad Grade Fire Road off W Blithedale Ave. You will be guided along the winding fire road, setting out from here. This path will guide you over Cascade Creek, Old Mill Creek, and East Fork Fern Creek up to Mount Tamalpais West Point. Enjoy the scene and continue hiking, intersecting with E Ridgecrest Boulevard. Form here, take the Eldridge Grade Fire Road.
Using the trail GPS, navigate the numerous intersections along the Eldridge Grade Fire Road, ultimately coming out on the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo Fire Road. This route will steeply descend the mountainside, ultimately reconnecting with the Old Railroad Grade Fire Road. Here, take the leftmost trail and retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
